A total of 300 young football players will participate in 22 weeks of football activities thanks to a Young Elite Group (YEG) initiative.

The inaugural Kwara U12 YEG league season began on Saturday with pomp and splendor, putting up nothing less than a classical performance.

Fans were treated to the greatest of football as players stepped out onto the revered field of Kwara Football Academy (KFA) and represented their clubs in a never-to-be-forgotten 90 minutes of football during the first day’s three matches.

The KFA lads were the biggest winners of the day when they defeated Honey King FA 5-0 in the first game, which was watched by Mallam Bola Mogaji, the executive chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, and Mallam Ibrahim Bako, the administrator of the KFA.

While Koller FA defeated Makamz FA by a score of 1-0, Solicitor FA also earned their first league victory with a 2-1 victory over Young Talent FA of Ogbondoroko.

On Sunday, three more games from the first match week’s schedule were played at the KFA pitch.

“It’s an effort to engage the teens productively and help them improve their football skills giving that the scope of their training schedule would have to change and they will have the opportunity to compete in a conducive environment like this week in week out” stated the league Coordinator, Ibrahim Jatto while reacting to the games.

Interestingly, each encounter had the presentation of man of the match award to outstanding players of as a way of inspiring better performance from the kids.
