Chief Executive Officer of Buruj FC Dr. Buruj Waheed Salaudeen believes only experienced candidates such as Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi qualifies for the top job at the Nigeria Football Federation.
Dr. Waheed disclosed this after a visit to the NFF Office Abuja for documentation.
He stated that the Lagos FA boss is capable of managing the office with his wealth of experience and exposure gained over the years while expressing his stance on former footballers looking to contest for the post.
“The NFF Office is no child’s play,” Waheed said.
“How many of these players can even manage an academy or club before talking of eyeing the NFF administration?”
“Ex-Internationals need to understand that the office environment is far different from being good on the field of play, it’s about the qualifications, goodwill, and doing the right thing at the appropriate time and pace.”
Waheed referenced former Cameroon and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o highlighting how he had invested in the development of football in his country.
“People talk about Eto’o becoming the new Cameroon Football president, he deserves to be there because he has invested in it. How many Nigerian players have invested in Nigerian football despite acquiring this wealth from the same aura, let them come out.”
“Once they have money they forget their root, even if it’s to donate as little as pure water to their grassroots they don’t see it as a priority to stand for the young ones,” he concluded.
Dr. Waheed further stated that allowing ex-internationals access to the top job will not do the football system any good.
