The race for who takes home the top scorer award for the 2022 Optima Energy Gold Cup is getting hot with Joshua Akpan and Samuel Anakwe leading the pack.

Joshua Akpan, an attacking midfielder for Shooting Stars, and Samuel Anakwe of Remo Stars, are currently in the lead for the Optima Energy Gold Cup’s top scorer title.

 Akpan and Anakwe are currently tied with four goals each.

In the Oluyole Warriors’s 4-1 thumping of Beyond Limits on Matchday One at the FC Ebedei Stadium, Akpan bagged an hattrick.

The midfielder scored twice from dead balls and added a third via penalty.

In the 4-2 victory over Gateway United Anakwe also bagged an hattrick. He went on to score once again in the victory over Hammola FC.

Shooting Stars’ Samuel Ayankinde and Remo Stars Captain Nduka Junior are the closest to the duo, with each of them having two goals.

The Taiwo Ogunjobi Foundation have also pledged to award cash prizes and plaques to the Optima Energy Gold Cup’s highest scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP)..
