In an effort to advance grassroots football in Nigeria, organizers of the Julius Aghahowa Super Cup’s have announced the inaugural edition of the grassroots Super Four competition in Benin City.
The Julius Aghahowa Super Four event will take place at the Eagle Wings football complex in Benin City from October 27 through October 29.
Four clubs from the state will compete for the competition’s top prize, according to the tournament’s chairman, Mr. Darlington Ogbeifun. The teams include BJ Foundation Football Club, Rolly Football Club, Rockers Football Club, and Eagle Wings Football Club, he claims.
“This is the inaugural edition, and the flag-off will feature four teams. We’ve already written to the clubs, and we anticipate hearing from them about the invitation. By God’s grace, we want to succeed and welcome additional teams by next year.”
The chairman claims that because local and foreign scouts are anticipated to be present during the entire competition to identify individuals with the potential to pursue careers in the football industry, all competitors are winners.
Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000) will be awarded to the first-place team, with compensation prizes going to the second-place team.
The former Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Julius Efosa Aghahowa played for Esperance of Tunisia, Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, Wigan Athletics of England, and Kayserispor in the Turkish Super League during his playing career.
