Nigeria’s U17 team, known as the Golden Eaglets, will be competing in Group B of the West Africa Football Union U17 Tournament against Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo.
As the defending champions, the Golden Eaglets are looking to retain their title after beating Burkina Faso in the sub-regional final two years ago in Ghana.
The WAFU Championship is an important pathway to the Africa U17 Cup of Nations, which makes this tournament crucial for the team’s qualification.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso are familiar opponents, having both represented the zone at the U17 AFCON last year and playing in the finals. Unfortunately, Burkina Faso defeated Nigeria in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria, which led to the Eaglets failing to qualify for the World Cup.
The Eaglets will be led by experienced coach Manu Garba, who was recently appointed. He will be assisted by Abdullahi Biffo and Olumide Ajibolade Joseph.
Meanwhile, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Republic of Benin are in Group A. The tournament is scheduled to take place from the 15th to the 28th of May in Accra.
