Sporting Lagos Academy, Beyond Limits FA, and TikiTaka have secured their spots in the esteemed Gothia Cup, set to take place in Gothenburg, Sweden, in mid-July.

The three Nigerian teams will join three other African sides in the tournament, including current champions Right To Dream (Ghana), OFA Academy (Senegal), and ASEC (Ivory Coast).

Beyond Limits FA was the sole Nigerian representative in the 2023 edition, which saw Ghana’s Right To Dream emerge victorious for the sixth time, defeating Swedish side AIK in the final.

Beyond Limits was crowned winner of the Viareggio Cup held in Italy earlier in the year.

The Gothia Cup, one of the largest international youth football tournaments globally, has a rich history dating back to 1975.

The tournament was founded by BK Häcken, GAIS, and a local newspaper, the tournament has been solely owned by BK Häcken since the 1980s.

Over a million players from 147 countries have participated in the tournament, including notable figures like Xabi Alonso, current coach of Bayer Leverkusen. Alonso, who played in the tournament at 13 years old, fondly recalled his experience and encouraged participating youths to relish the week of football.

This year’s edition promises to be an exciting display of young talent from around the world.
