Ikorodu City Football Club has achieved promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in just two years since its founding in January 2022.
The club was established to serve as a community club in Ikorodu, Lagos State, with a mission to discover, nurture, and groom talents for the benefit of the country.
Ikorodu City FC has its roots in Bolowotan Football Club (BFC), a community-based team founded in 2007. Although BFC gained promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL), funding issues prevented them from participating, and their slot was handed over to MFM FC, which later rose to the NPFL.
Ikorodu City FC aims to establish a strong presence in Ikorodu, reducing crime by training and empowering indigent youths. To achieve this, the club assembled top players from Lagos in 2022. After two consecutive seasons in the NNL, the team has won the Lagos State FA Cup twice. In the 2024 season, they topped their group in Conference B and secured a spot in the Super 8 play-off.
On June 12, 2024, Ikorodu City defeated Madiba 2-0 in Enugu, earning promotion to the NPFL. They will face Elkanemi Warriors in the NNL Super 8 semi-final, with Coach Bright and his team set to make their NPFL debut next season.
