Sporting Lagos Academy has emerged as the champion of the 48th edition of the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Nigerian team defeated FC Tokyo 4-0 in the final to claim the title Gothia Puma Trophy.

The victory marks a historic milestone for the Lagos-based team, as they become the first Nigerian team to ever win the prestigious tournament.

Abdullahi Yusuf scored the opening goal, followed by Babatunde Akomolede and then Lucky John who scored a brace.

Throughout the competition, Sporting Lagos demonstrated exceptional form, conceding only four goals in seven matches.

Sporting’s Babatunde Akomolede was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

Coach Shola Adegun’s side showed remarkable defensive solidity, with Beyond Limits being the only team to breach their defence. Sporting Lagos’s attacking prowess was equally impressive, scoring 15 goals in their first major tournament.
