Norwegian side Lillestrøm has reached an agreement with Sporting Lagos for the signing of Seun Akanji.

Lillestrom said in a statement that it had secured an option to buy the 16-year-old winger who has been training with the club since mid-January and impressed in two friendly matches.

Akanji was scouted during a tournament in Nigeria, where he topped the list of talents among all Elite Series clubs and Scandinavian teams. “We found him so exciting that we invited him to join us,” says Mesfin.

Before LSK’s invitation, Sporting Lagos had already received offers from several European and Scandinavian clubs. However, LSK convinced the Nigerian club that they are the right fit for Akanji’s development.

“This is similar to the case with KP (Kparobo Ariheri), where we secured the rights long before the player turned 18. Akanji can only become eligible to play in the summer of 2026, but we have now made a club agreement that secures our rights when he turns 18. In the meantime, we will invite him to several stays with us to start the integration phase and continue his development,” explains Mesfin.

The sports director is extremely pleased to have secured an agreement for Akanji. “He is one of the most exciting talents in Nigeria right now, and we are very happy to have gotten this agreement in place,” he concludes.
