Joy Cometh FC has once again called on the attention of the Nigeria Football Federation on an unresolved issue that saw the club ‘illegally relegated’ from the Nigeria National League (NNL) in the 2020/2021 season.
The Lagos-based club said they have not received any response from the NFF following an arbitration between the club and the Nigeria National League held 14th of March 2022.
The nation’s highest football body had informed the parties that a decision would be communicated within a few days, but there has been no communication.
“It is pertinent to note that it is highly irregular that to date, no reply to our letter requesting for the decision has been received,” the club said through its legal representative Olisa Agabkoba Legal in a letter directed written to the General Secretary of the federation.
“Our clients have also suffered a great loss as a result, money has been expended and their sponsors have pulled out because of their undetermined status in the league.
“We humbly seek the support of your good office in ensuring that the decision of the arbitration hearing of the 15th March 2022 is released so that our client’s position in the league is re-instated.”
Joy Cometh finished the 2020/2021 season on 11th place in the Group B Southern Conference standings and insisted it had secured enough points to survive the drop, but the league management at its Annual General Meeting held on the 15th of December 2021 decided that the club alongside other 11 clubs must participate in a playoff.
The club pointed out that the eight teams that ought to have gone down had been decided and did not take part in the playoff as it was not stated in any previous AGMs that relegation would be decided in a playoff format.
Joy Cometh said it had written to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, the Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria National League, and has also held a meeting with the Lagos State FA but all to no avail.
Meanwhile, the current 2021/2022 season has already entered match day 21. Neither is Joy Cometh involved nor is the club participating in the third tier, the Nationwide League with hopes of getting justice.
