Chelsea Football Club has appointed Seyi Olofinjana, the Director of Imperial Football Club and a former Nigerian international, to a talent management position focused on Africa.
In this role, Olofinjana will be responsible for providing recruitment recommendations across the region, collaborating with a newly appointed scout dedicated to Africa, The Athletic reports.
Leveraging his extensive experience and expertise, Olofinjana’s remit aims to enhance Chelsea’s existing connections in Africa, facilitating a streamlined pathway for talented players to join the London club or its sister operation, Strasbourg in France.
Olofinjana will provide support to players upon their arrival, ensuring a smooth transition and adaptation to their new environment.
He has a record of 56 caps for Nigeria, and has played for several clubs including Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he made 147 appearances and scored 18 goals between 2004 and 2008.
Olofinjana also had stints with Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, as well as Premier League clubs Stoke City and Hull City.
