Abdulwahab Jubril finished off a good team move to book Kogi United's place in the quarter finals.

Nigeria National League side, Kogi United has eliminated Akwa United football club from the 2022 AITEO Cup.

The two-time champions were defeated 2-1 by the Lokoja-based club in the round of 16.

Coach Ayodeji Ayeni’s team went into the half-time break trailing Kogi United courtesy of a goal from John Jerome.

In the second half, Akwa United intensified the pressure and it paid off in the 67th minute when Bello Babatunde’s cross was handled by Femi Adewumi inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Ubong Friday shot past the goalkeeper as the Uyo-based club leveled the scores.

The Promise Keepers pushed for a late winner but unfortunately, they got shocked once more Kogi United grabbed the winning goal against the run of play in the 80th minute.
